Collier, Reginald Jack, 1895-1982

Reginald Jack Collier (1895-1982) served with the British Army during the First World War. Born in Coombe, Oxfordshire on 21 March 1895, he studied Botany and Forestry in Abingdon. In September 1914 he enlisted in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He was promoted quickly, and soon achieved the rank of Captain, joining the Royal Flying Corps. He was wounded in June of 1917 and subsequently awarded the Military Medal. He was demobilized in 1919 and went to work for a lumber company in Malvern. In 1920, he arrived in Canada, working for a lumber company in Toronto. In 1922, while recovering from an illness at Christie St. Hospital, he met Beatrice Davison, a nurse in charge of the ward. They married in 1923. During the Second World War II he attempted to join the RCAF, however he was not accepted for service. Reginald Collier retired in 1964 and moved to Bobcaygeon. He died 8 November, 1982.
