      History

      The Cloyne and District Historical Society was formed as a not-for-profit organization in 2001, with charitable status achieved in 2002. The mandate of the CDHS is to record and preserve the history of the area known as North Frontenac and Addington Highlands municipalities of Ontario, with the additional responsibility of sharing this history with the public. This group is an extension of a group formed in 1972 and known as The Pioneer Club. The current mandate of the CDHS is an enhancement of the original intent of the Pioneer Club.

      The CDHS collects items, both archival and artifactual, from the specific geographical areas noted above, and preserves those items in the museum and archives. The organization also meets monthly to present programs of interest to the membership and the wider public, and provides the resources necessary to maintain the museum and archives.
