Reeks 4 - Clinical Trials Committee minutes

The date of the first meeting of the Clinical Trials Committee is not known. The first minutes to survive in the Archives are from September 6, 1977.

The Clinical Trials Committee was responsible for co-ordinating the conduct of clinical trials at the Princess Margaret Hospital. Some of the functions of the Clinical Trials Committee included: registering any proposed clinical trials involving PMH patients, establishing criteria for the review of clinical trials, considering for approval, all proposed clinical trials according to the established criteria, including scientific and ethical aspects of the trials, and monitoring the availability of appropriate human and material resources for the conduct of clinical trials.

The Clinical Trials Committee met monthly at least ten times a year and reported to the Medical Advisory Committee at least twice a year.

The Clinical Trials Committee membership included: one representative from the Department of Medicine, one representative from the Department of Radiation Oncology, one representative from the Department of Pathology, and one representative from the Department of Imaging.

D.E. Bergsagel was the chair of the Clinical Trials Committee from 1977 to 1987. Subsequent chairs of the Clinical Trials Committee were I.F. Tannock (1987-1990), P. Warde (1990-1993), G. Rawlings (1993-1994), and D. Hedley (1994-1997?).
