Biographical history
Clifton Thomas Williams Hyslop was born on 12 February 1917 in Hamilton, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) in March 1941 and served until 1946. He served on HMCS Stadacona, HMS Badsworth, HMS Hannibal, HMS Boston, HMS Mendip, HMCS Naden and HMCS Givenchy. In 1946 he was demobilized and subsequently had a civil service career, first with the Province of British Columbia and then with the federal government. He retired in 1976 and died in Victoria in 1998.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of official documents relating to the wartime service of Lieutenant Hyslop with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) during the Second World War. They include several "Commissions and Warrants"; the orders which appointed officers to take up a new position. Includes two hand-drawn diagrams showing the escort force dispositions for the original designation for UK-North Russia convoys (PQ) and one for Malta operations. There is also a collection of "flimsies" in which commanding officers wrote periodic fitness reports on their officers assessing their performance and suitability for greater responsibilities and promotion. Fonds also includes biographical information on Hyslop and information on HMS badsworth.
