Biographical history
Cleve Kidd (1909-1999), Economist, worked as Research Director for the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) from 1943-1962. He also served on the executive of the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL). Kidd was a member of two Royal Commissions; the Commission on Price Spreads of Food Products in Canada (1957-1959) and the Commission on the Jamaican Sugar Industry (1959). Following the commissions, he was assigned as general counsel and coordinator for trade union activity throughout the Caribbean until 1962 when he resigned from USWA. Kidd then worked as the Executive Vice-President of the Canadian Air Line Pilot's Association (CALPA) until 1969. From 1971-1972, he was a member of the Employment Support Board of Canada. In 1972, he was appointed to the Canada Labour Relations Board where he remained until 1979, and retired at the age of 70. Cleve Kidd passed away in 1998.

Scope and content
The Cleve Kidd fonds consists of notes and correspondence, negotiation files, reports, speeches, photographs. Constitutions, articles, printed material and newspaper clippings are also included. The professional achievements of Cleve Kidd in the labour movement, and concerns at the personal level from 1940-1990, are found in the records. His role as arbitrator and conciliator in the field of labour and industrial relations is well documented. The records provide insight to the activities of Canadian unions working in conjunction with labour groups in the Caribbean and the United States. The photographs of the fonds depict his work for the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) on the international stage. The proceedings of the negotiations between the Canadian Pacific Airlines and Trans-Canada Airlines are also well documented in the fonds.

The fonds was received in one accrual in February 1995. Some of the books that were received with the donation were transferred to the Laurentian University Library.
