The Civil Liberties Association, National Capital Region (CLANCR) was founded in 1968 as an independent organization with a mandate to inform and educate the public on their civil rights and to financially assist individuals in obtaining their rights and liberties. The CLANCR was a member of The Canadian Rights and Liberties Federation.
Material was accumulated by Don Whiteside (d. 1993), past-chairman of the organization 1987-1988.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of correspondence, agendas and minutes of board meetings, funding proposals, newspaper articles, casework and newsletters pertaining to the activities of the CLANCR.
Immediate source of acquisition
Fonds was donated in 1990 by Don Whiteside on behalf of the Civil Liberties Association, National Capital Region.
