        Historique

The Court of Revision for the City of Guelph was established in [1851?] for the hearing of assessment related appeals. It was composed of the Sheriff and two other officials appointed by City Council. The Court of Revision was able to hear appeals from Guelph residents regarding personal and real property assessments made by the City's Assessors and local improvement charges to be imposed by the City for engineering services such as sewer house connections and road paving. The Court met to hear appeals of assessments on a ward-by-ward or engineering project basis and was empowered to change a levied assessment if the evidence produced warranted it. The Court of Revision ceased to exist when the Province of Ontario assumed responsibility for municipal property assessment in 1970.
