Administrative history
Christ Church, Aylmer was established in 1842 as part of the mission of Hull-Symmes Landing (Aylmer). At this time, services were held at the court house owned by Mr. Thomas Symmes. Building of Christ Church began in 1843 and was completed in 1845. The church was consecrated by Bishop Fulford in 1859. Symmes Landing became incorporated as the village of Aylmer in 1847 and Aylmer became an independent mission in 1866. In 1882, a chancel was added during which time services were held in the Town Hall. Aylmer became self-supporting and obtained the status of a Rectory in 1887 and in 1898 a little chapel was constructed in the basement of the church. In 1971, St. Augustine's, Lower Eardley was secularized leaving Christ Church, Aylmer the sole church in the parish until 2001 at which time St. Luke's, Eardley and St. John the Evangelist, Quyon were joined to Aylmer.
