Deseronto Archives photographic collection

The photographs are arranged by subject matter and cover activities in and around the town of Deseronto, Ontario. The majority date from the late nineteenth century and many depict the lumber-related industries of the Rathbun Company in Deseronto. There are also photographs of school groups, churches, railways, First World War airfields and portraits of Deseronto citizens.

Fonds illustrates Ella N. Martin’s work as a senior lecturer at the Royal Ontario Museum and her interest in improving museum education. The fonds is arranged into twelve series, which span her entire career from the late 1930s to the mid 1970s. The fonds includes correspondence, publications, photographs, personal papers and journals, lecture notes, drafts of a book, student reports, course instructions, teacher evaluation forms, interpretative text, film and radio scripts, worksheets for children and other materials. Marjorie Sorrell Oral History Project Interview

File consists of a DVD including Marjorie Sorrell's "Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project interview; and a paper copy of the interview transcript, 2013. The interview was edited and uploaded to YouTube with the following description: "Join the Port Hope Archives as we speak to Marjorie Sorrell about local businesses, moving to Port Hope, Opportunity for Youth, Olde Tyme Christmas, her ballet school and bed and breakfast, and her husband, Brian Sorrell."

Metropolitan Committee on Violence against Women and Children (METRAC) files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran relating to METRAC, its mandate and its activities. Records in this series document a number of METRAC's projects in the 1990s, including its involvement with the May-Iles inquest and other legal cases, public safety audits for the Royal Bank and the Toronto Transit Commission, an Ontario Women's Justice Network project, and the production of METRAC publications on stalking and domestic violence. Also included in this series are McPhedran's subject files regarding violence against women and children, METRAC administrative files, and files pertaining to meetings of METRAC's board of directors, on which McPhedran served as a member and/or chair during this period. Files in this series consist of correspondence, minutes, budgets, reports, agendas, financial statements, legal documents, memoranda, newspaper and magazine articles, journal articles, handbooks and pamphlets, notes, mission statements, and work plans.

This fonds contains records produced during the time the Sisters administered and worked at Mount St. Joseph Centre in Hamilton. It also consists of records which were produced by the Woodview Children’s Centre and Cool School in Burlington and Hamilton. These institutions grew out of Mount St. Joseph Centre after it ceased its functions. The records that encompass this collection are of historical importance because they offer a snapshot of special needs education during the latter half of the twentieth century. The fonds consists of bylaws and policies, correspondence, proposals and reports, a scrapbook, meeting minutes, financial records, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, invitations, addresses, and legal documents.

Northwestern Ontario Regional Child Care Committee fonds

The Northwestern Ontario Regional Day Care Committee / Child Care Committee operated from the 1970s to the 1990s. The Committee was a grassroots organization made up of child care workers, administrators, parents, and others concerned with the provision of child care in the region. The Committee was engaged in advocacy work, as well as supporting the work of child care centres and professionals.

Records of the Committee include reports, newsletters, minutes, correspondence, lobbying documents, and more.

Opportunity for Youth Album No. 1

Series consists of a photocopy an original album created as a momento of the first year of operation for Opportunity for Youth; as well as promotional documents which were contained within the album. Photographs have been removed from the album for preservation purposes, and are accessible under 2015.41.1. Notable events: Port Hope Fall Fair, Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny, Canada Day, Dance-a-thon at Port Hope High School.
