The Child Guidance Centre is established in 1953 in the Department of Psychology and Education. In 1968, the Centre changes its name to Child Study Centre and becomes an integral part of the Department of Child Psychology. The Center is integrated to the School of Psychology and serves as a training unit for graduate students specializing in various branches of developmental psychology and as a community service centre for children requiring psychological assistance or intervention. The Child Study Center is abolished and closes its doors on June 30 1995. The Centre psycho-social pour enfants et familles d'Ottawa-Carleton and the Crossroads Children Center will take over the activities of the Child Study Center.

The fonds contain which document the functions of the Child Study Center. It includes annual reports of the Child Study Centre (1974-1977;1983-1988), Management Council minutes (1979-1995), Advisory Board (1980-1981, 1982-1985, 1987-1992), Staff Meetings minutes (1979-1982), financial statements (1974-1986, 1990-1993), material concerning the camp Venta and correspondence.
