Biographical history
Charles Vincent was a member of the founding staff of St. Michael's College, 1852-1865, and its second Superior when he succeeded Fr. J. M. Soulerin in 1865; he remained so until 1886. He enlarged the building, increased the number of students and, in 1881, oversaw affiliation with the University Toronto as well as the beginning of Assumption College in Sandwich/Windsor. John Joseph Lynch was the third Archbishop of Toronto (1860 -1888), the successor to Abp. Armand Charbonnel, and before him, Bp. Michael Power. He sought more Catholic schools and increased the number of Catholic Churches in Ontario. He developed existing benevolent institutions and started new ones, orphanages for boys, boarding schools for working girls and students of teachers' college, with the assistance of the Sisters of st. Joseph.
