A Central Navigation School was formed during the Second World War at Rivers, Manitoba, on 11 May 1942, by the amalgamation of No. 1 Air Navigation School and No. 2 Air Navigation School. The school was disbanded on 15 September 1945. In the post-Second World War period, the Central Navigation School (CNS) was formed at Summerside P.E.I. on 1 Aug 1951 from the Specialist Training Wing of the Air Navigation School at that station. CNS was relocated at Winnipeg in the summer of 1954. On 31 January 1968 the CNS was amalgamated with the Central Flying School (CFS) to form the Central Flying and Navigation School (CFNS), Winnipeg. The school was integrated into the Canadian Armed Forces on 1 February 1968.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of two reports on visits to military units, government research and development establishments, and civilian manufacturing firms throughout the United Kingdom, France, Holland, and Canada. The first report pertains to visits in Europe and has been published in August 1965 as "A Report on the visits of 17 Aerospace Systems course to establishments in Europe." The second report includes background history on each site visited in June 1967. It also provides new and revised technological data for use by students and staff at CNS. It's title was "A Report on the visits of 19 Aerospace Systems course to establishments in Canada."
