Administrative history
The Caradoc Indian Mission Pastoral Charge was created in 1932, as a successor to the Oneida and Muncey Charges of the United Church. At one time it included preaching places at Oneida River, Central, Bear Creek, and Colborne on the Oneida Indian Reserve in southwestern Ontario. There is no preaching place at Caradoc.
The Muncey Mission was an early Wesleyan Methodist Church mission, and for a long time included the Mount Elgin Industrial Institute as part of its work amongst the Chippewa people. Muncey was also known as Deleware Station in the nineteenth century.
Oneida United Church, one of the preaching places on the Caradoc Charge, was created as part of the Oneida Mission of the Methodist Church in 1873. The United Church originally named it a Pastoral Charge before including it in the new Caradoc Indian Mission Pastoral Charge in 1933.
Colborne United Church was a preaching spot on the Caradoc Indian Mission Pastoral Charge. Colborne was a Chippewa Indian settlement on the Oneida Reserve, and was also known as Upper Munceytown at one time.
