    The Canadian Forces Medical Services (CFMS) was established on 15 January 1959 and placed under the direction of the Surgeon General of the Canadian Forces. This single medical organization looked after the personnel of the three Canadian Armed Services: Royal Canadian Navy; Royal Canadian Air Force; and Canadian Army. Its mission was the conservation of personnel to support the military operations through the prevention and treatment of disease and injury.

    Fonds consists of Canadian Forces Medical Orders for 1961 and amendment lists for 1961-1967. The various chapters of the documents cover a wide range of medical issues. They include the organization of medical care, duties and responsibilities of medical officers, medical reports and returns, medical documentation, supplies and supply accounting, financial administration, medical training, patient services, physical standards and categorization, medical examinations, industrial hygiene, radiation control, and bio science services.
