Administrative history
In 1962, the University agrees to house the Canadian Documentation Centre on Sport and Physical Education. Rev. Médéric Montpetit is appointed as the Centre's first director. Operating with a volunteer staff and a grant from the Department of National Health and Welfare, the Centre assembles comprehensive information to aspects of fitness and sport. In 1964, the Centre changes its name to the Canadian Documentation Centre, Fitness and Sport. A full-time director and staff are appointed and a National Advisory Committee is created. In 1965, the Centre begins publishing a newsletter which outlines the activities of the Centre, describes its services, provides news on sports activities, and lists recent sports and fitness-related publications. In 1968, upon the recommendation of the National Consultative Committee of Fitness and Amateur Sport, the Centre is integrated with Fitness and Amateur Sport under the Minister of Health and Welfare.
