Administrative history
The Canadian Army Staff College (CASC) library was created in 1947. Located at the Royal Military College (RMC), the CASC Library was designed to function separately from the RMC Library and to serve the needs of the Staff College. Headed by Lieutenant Colonel T.F. Gelley, the initial collection consisted of some 300 books and reports which had been brought over from England when the Canadian Junior War Staff Course was transferred to Canada (1942). When the Canadian Army Staff College moved from the Royal Military College to new quarters in Fort Frontenac in December 1947, the library was also transferred and re-named the Fort Frontenac Library. The library was designed to meet the research needs of the staff and students of both the National Defence College and the Canadian Army Staff College in the fields of military science, international relations, government, politics, and economics.
