History
R.C.A.F. Tholthorpe Station, located in Yorkshire, England, was created in 1943 as a satellite to the Royal Air Force’s Linton-on-Ouse airbase. Linton-on-Ouse and Tholthorpe were both transferred to No. 6 (RCAF) Bomber Group on 18 June, 1943, to accommodate the Group’s growth. Two Canadian squadrons, the 434 (Bluenose) and 431 (Iroquiose), began arriving on 19 June, 1943. They began operations shortly thereafter. In December of 1943, 434 and 431 Squadrons were transferred out of Tholthrope and replaced by the 420 (Snowy Owls) and 425 (Alouette) Squadrons, who remained at the station for the duration of the war. The station was closed in 1945.
