        History

The Ministerial Committee on Official Languages in the Dept. of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces arose from concern over the extent to which the French was used and the degree to which francophones were adequately represented in the armed forces and in the Dept. of National Defence (DND). It was directed to examine the DND Master Implementation Plan covering the period 1987-2002 and to seek ways to achieve the goals more quickly. The Committee was also asked to identify sectors in both military and civilian components of the Department where francophone participation should be improved.
