History
At the beginning of the Second World War in 1940, the Naval Information Division was headed by the Controller of Naval Information, which worked under the supervision of the Directorate of Plans Division, Naval Services Headquarters, Ottawa. The duties of Division, were: the collection and censorship of information for the Press, maintenance of Historical Record of Naval Activities, and liaison with the other Dominion Government Censorship organizations. On 1 July 1942 Naval Information (N Inf) Section, headed by Naval Information Officer, came under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of Naval Intelligence (DNI), Naval Services Headquarters, Ottawa. After the war, it became 'Directorate of Naval Information', an organization formed within the Naval Headquarters, Dept. of National Defence. In 1965, it became 'Directorate of Information Services', which existed as a separate Naval Service organization until the integration process at Canadian Forces Headquarters had been completed by the end of the year.
