Administrative history

The Division of Mission in Canada was formed in 1971, and was then known as the Division of Mission; it integrated the work of the Evangelism and Social Service, Home Missions, and Christian Education Committees, and the United Church Women and United Church Men. The Division’s purpose was to support the Church’s mission of encouraging and enabling persons in congregations and communities to discover, accept and express the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Its responsibilities included developing program, maintaining co-operation, giving supervision and providing resources in the areas of Christian education, evangelism, family life, social action, and worship. It was also responsible for the administration of Mission Support Grants (formerly Block Grants). In 2014, it became known as Faith Formation & Congregational Life.
