Series consists of material pertaining to the building of the Port Hope & District Hospital. It includes: Several rolls of hospital building plans and specifications; Construction Disbursements Ledger, 1955-1963; Records of contributions to the Building Fund; Minutes of the Building Committee, 1956-1958; Survey Analysis and Plan for the Port Hope and District Hospital prepared by G. A. Brakeley & Co., 1962; Hospital Building Fund, 1963-1966; Journal of Construction.

Outlined in By-law 325 (1903), the duties of the Building Inspector included the examination of construction of buildings and repairs, making the Office of the Building Inspector a likely candidate for the responsibility of the Fort William building permit registers. Through reviewing annual reports (Series 16) it appears that the office of the Building Inspector came under the direction of the Fire Water and Light Committee.

Arranged numerically by year and permit number, registers (Between 1912 and 1972) generally include the following details:
permit number, date, owner, information on the location of the building including lot, block, plan, street and address, a description of the building including construction details of walls, foundations and roof, the names of architect/contractor and plumber/electrician, the costs of the construction, any fees charged and the purpose of the permit. Monthly summaries give the
totals for different categories of construction such as duplexes, single dwellings, sheds, commercial and institutional buildings.

The earliest building permits (1907-1911) do not include details regarding the contractor, builder, plumber or electrician, but still provide a description of the purpose of building and value attached to the construction.

This series consists of bound volumes with details of construction completed under a permit number. There is no index to permit numbers, by name or property. Researchers must know the approximate year of the construction for a property in order to search, page by page, for the street address.

The fonds consists of a large collection of printed material relating to the St. Lawrence Deep Waterway/ St. Lawrence Seaway, 1894-1969. It also contains Canadian and American federal, provincial/state, regional and municipal descriptions, reports, and submissions. There is also material from associations including American pro and anti-St. Lawrence Seaway lobby groups. There are articles from newspapers, magazines and other publications about the Seaway and its costs/benefits. There is also Wright’s manuscript, galleys and reviews of his book “The St. Lawrence Deep Waterway: A Canadian Appraisal” (1935) as well as chronologies and Wright’s talks and submission about the Seaway. There is a small amount of Wright’s correspondence, mostly asking for information about the Seaway. Lastly, there are special newspaper sections about the Seaway as well as maps and oversize documents. The fonds is arranged in five series.

Item is one (1) edition of "Canadian House & Home" Magazine, Feb 2010. It includes a feature article of a renovated Port Hope home (68 Cavan Street) completed by Alan de la Vigne, p. 54.

File consists of correspondence related to the "CNR Construction Project" for the renovation of the Canadian Northern Railway station building located on Hope Street, Port Hope.

File consists of papers and correspondence between the Town of Port Hope (now Municipality of Port Hope), Canadian National Railway, Hogan Restorations, Architect Howard Walkers and lawyers, 1981-1985. All correspondence related to the restoration of the CNR station. It also includes an invitation to the opening on 7 Dec 1985 and the invitation list.

File consists of the documentation related to the restoration of the Canadian Northern Railway station, Hope Street, Port Hope. It contains mostly correspondence and legal documents.

File consists of nine (9) legal documents (and newspaper clippings) relating to the restoration of the Port Hope CN Station, 1984. It includes: (1) Agreement between ACO and Alan Zeegen Associates Ltd. (Engineers) 18 April 1984; (2) Inspection Report CN Rails Station. February 1982; (3) CN Railway Station, Port Hope Ontario by Martin E. Eaver, Director of Education & Technical Services, Heritage Canada Foundation Conservation Study, July 5, 1982; (4) Stipulated price contact, 1984; (5) Agreement between CNR Company and Ontario Heritage Foundation and ACO, March 1983; (6) Agreement between the Canadian Railway Company and Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Ontario as represented by the Minister of Culture and Citizenship and the ACO re: $180,000 between the 3 parties; (7) Document regarding the transfer of land between CNR and ACO, 1987; (8) Railway information kit for aid in the conservation of Heritage Railway Stations; (9) Newspaper articles concerning the reopening of the Station.

File consists of one (1) poster-sized plan for a sign for the renovation of the Canadian National Railway station, created by the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, Port Hope Branch.

Item is a commemorative booklet for the 75th Anniversary of the Canton United Church (the brick structure), 1951. The booklet includes short history about congregation, buildings, cemetery and organizations.

Fonds consists of materials created by the Capitol Theatre Foundation over the course of renovations of the historic movie theatre, in Port Hope, 1992-2004.
