History
Tim Buck, machinist, trade unionist, and communist, was born on 6 January 1891 in Beccles, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1910. He was a founding member of the Communist Party of Canada in 1921 and became its general secretary in 1929, a position he held for 32 years. He spent two years in jail, 1932-1934, after the party was banned. He reorganized it as the Labor-Progressive Party in 1943. He stood for election in three federal election campaigns.
