    George Bernard Wakefield Harrison (1907-2003) lived in the Niagara region and was a strong supporter and benefactor of Brock University. Originally from England, Bernard became an engineer and worked on the air raid warning system during World War II. After the war, he worked as a Trade Commissioner for the U.K. in Madras and Hong Kong, where he met his wife Bertha Thompson, a native of Niagara. The couple moved to the Niagara area, and Bernard went back to University to obtain a teaching certificate. He subsequently taught physics and mathematics at a local high school, and worked as a demonstrator in the physics department at Brock University. He died in January, 2003 at the age of 95.

    Fonds remained in the possession of Bernard Harrison until his death in 2003. The executors of his estate, Peter Gosen and Katherine Hildebrand, gave the material to External Relations, Brock University, where it was later transferred to Special Collections and Archives, James A. Gibson Library, Brock University.

    Portée et contenu

    Fonds consists of records accumulated by Bernard Harrision during his life and careers. Fonds consists mainly of papers relating to his careers as an engineer and teacher, as well as anecdotes relating to both his personal and professional life.
