Historique
Edwin (Ed) Bennett is considered by many to be one of Woodstock's heroes. He is most notably known for his command of three tanks with the 14th Calgary Army Tank Corp in the raid on Dieppe in 1942, where he was wounded and taken prisoner. Following his release he served at SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force) as a photo and film censor. On return to Woodstock, he was the General Manager of Coles Brothers Insurance Company until retirement in 1979. As a member of the Oxford Historical Society, Ed volunteered for over 30 years researching, promoting and preserving Woodstock's heritage where he was involved in such projects as the preservation of the Oxford County Jail as well as the repatriation of Joe Boyle. He passed away at Parkwood Hospital, London on November 11, 2010.
