        History

        William Douglas Bell was born in St. Thomas, Ont., in 1893, son of James Anthony Bell and Katherine Bell and brother of geologist Walter A. Bell. He enrolled as a student-at-law at Osgoode Hall Law School in 1910. Bell was part of the 2nd Overseas Contingent in November 1914 and served as a lieutenant in the 4th Canadian Machine Gun Corps. He was killed during Battle of Flers-Courcelette on 15 Sept. 1916.
