History
Charles "Charlie" Smith Baker was born in Brighton, England on October 30, 1909. He immigrated to Canada in 1927, and lived on a farm in Ripley, Ontario before moving to Belmont on August 20, 1945, where he worked for Don and Etta Willsie. He lived in Belmont for over 53 years, working at various farms. He became the first resident of Belmont's Bel Parc Seniors Apartment in 1980, where he lived until February 1998. He was then transferred to Caressant Care Nursing Home and died on April 2, 1999. According to Rev. Gloria Langlois, Charlie came to Canada as one of the Barnardo Home Children.
