General note
During the Second World War, auxiliary vessels from various government departments and private sources were requisitioned by the Commanding Officer Auxiliary Vessels for carrying out different duties such as minesweeping or anti-submarine warfare. These vessels were primarily members of the Fisherman’s Reserve, and their particulars varied greatly. This fleet included tugs, harbour crafts, harbour defence patrol crafts, patrol crafts, gate vessels and loop laying vessels. This force had ceased to exist by 1944, when the majority of the crews were transferred to the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) or released from duty and the vessels were returned to their owners.
