    Administrative history

The first area training centre was established at Meaford, Ontario in 1995. The purpose of the training centre is to provide both the physical and administrative framework for a cohesive approach to training within the armed forces. At the time the 1987 "White Paper" on National Defence officially launched the "total force" concept within the Canadian Armed Forces. One of the components of this concept involved increasing the operational capacity of the militia by establishing four Militia Training and Support Centres (MTSC).

    Scope and content

Fonds consists of four folders and one report regarding reserve training in the mid-1990's. Folders 1 and 2 are concerned with the concepts of the Area Readiness Training Company (ARTC) at Meaford. Folder 3 highlights the concepts for militia combat evaluation methodology. Folder 4 contains unit evaluations and the report provides the Annual Training Directive for 1997-1998. The folders are arranged in chronological order.
