Administrative history

Port Hope and District Architectural Conservancy was established in 1949 and became the Port Hope Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario in 1964. The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, founded in 1933, is committed to the preservation of the architectural and natural heritage of the province. It emphasizes the importance of the historical association of properties in connection with the development of a community.

Donated to the Port Hope Archives by the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, Port Hope Branch (ACO), 1995.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of the papers created throughout the process of renovating the old Canadian National Railway station in Port Hope, c1977-1986. The project was supervised by the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, Port Hope Branch. Please refer to series-level descriptions for more detailed information.

      The renovation of the CNR station in Port Hope (c. 1985) was made possible by the Canadian National Railway, Via Rail Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship & Culture, Corporation of the Town of Port Hope, The R.S. McLaughlin Foundation, Toronto Architecture Consultants, Fisher-Glaster Architects, Boyce Valley Construction Ltd., Clifford Masonry.
