Biographical history
Anthony Kellett has been a researcher on contemporary military issues since the 1970s. He received his BA in History from Cambridge University (1968) and his MA from McGill University in 1972. In 1970, he joined the Royal Canadian Hussars (Montréal) and left in 1977 after attaining the rank of Captain. In 1979, he went back to work for the Directorate of Social and Economic Analysis (DSEA) of the Operational Research and Analysis Establishment as a defence analyst (he had worked there in 1973). His study on combat motivation led to a published book in 1982 "Combat Motivation. The Behavior of Soldiers in Battle" for which he received a Public Service of Canada Merit Award. He has also published chapters in two encyclopedias, five books and written several journal articles. In the 1980s, he studied issues of military organization (including the regimental system). In 1993, he joined the Directorate of Strategic Analysis at National Defence Headquarters where he was in charge of various studies on Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union. In 1997, Tony Kellett received a Deputy Minister's Commendation for his work on the Minister of National Defence report to the Prime Minister. Some of his more recent work focuses on South Asia, Russian Peacekeeping and the conflict in Afghanistan. Along with having lectured widely, Tony Kellet has been interviewed on radio and television.
