Since the late 1960's, an Animal Care Service was created at the University of Ottawa. Since then, the Animal Care and Veterinary Service of the University of Ottawa is the administrative entity responsible for the acquisition, the transportation and care of animals used in research, teaching or testing. A miscellaneous committee created by the Administrative Committee of the University, under the helm of the Vice-President, Research, manages and coordinates the activities of the Service.

The fonds contain files which document the functions of Animal Care and Veterinary Service. It includes minutes of the meetings of the Protocols Review Group (1986-1991, 2000-2001), minutes of the Executive Animal Care Committee (1985-1990), annual reports (1990-1992), protocol files, a laboratory protocol manual [1975], financial documents and medical files.
