    Administrative history

In 1940 the Naval Staff created the position of "Captain Commanding Canadian Ships and Establishments in the United Kingdom" (CCCS) for the town-class group of destroyers. It recognized the importance of liaison work as part of the duties of the senior Canadian officers in Great Britain, and with personnel in United Kingdom (UK) waters and the Admiralty. Other responsibilities included looking after the welfare of personnel and to transmit to the Canadian government an account of their proceedings. In 1941 the title was changed to "Commodore Commanding Canadian Ships". In 1942 the function of the CCCS was further clarified. In addition to continuing to be available for liasion duties in London, the CCCS retained general administrative control over RCN ships and establishments in the UK. In 1943 the title was changed to "Senior Canadian Naval Officer (London).
