Administrative history
The Dominion Woman's Christian Temperance Union, later renamed the Canadian Woman's Christian Temperance Union, was established in 1888. The Union promoted total abstinence from alcohol, believing that this would eliminate the problems that alcohol caused families and society.
Custodial history
Fonds was in the possession of Mrs. James Nelson of St. Catharines, Ont., for an unknown period of time. Fonds was received in the archives through Professor Pat Dirks.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of records and other material accumulated by the Woman's Christian Temperance Union of the County of Lincoln. Fonds includes 11 minute books with entries ranging from 1897-1965. Also included are papers and other material laid in the books, such as W.C.T.U. programmes and directories, newspaper clippings, Resolutions, correspondence and notes.
