History

The Department of Mathematics is established in the School of Applied Sciences in 1954. The first Masters degree is conferred in 1958 and the first Ph.D. in 1962. For ten years, between 1957 and 1967, the Department is also in charge of the University Computing Centre. Today, the Department of Mathematics teaches a variety of courses including algebra, analysis, differential equations, geometry, number theory, probability, and statistics. The Faculty of Arts also offers a Concentration programme in Mathematics.
