Administrative history

The organization of sporting activities is left largely in the hands of the Athletic Association managed by the students until 1961. In 1961, the Administrative Council creates the Sports Department. In 1969, the Department joined the School of Physical Education and Recreation to become Sports and Recreation Services. Since 1975, Sports Services are a part of Students' Affairs General Directorate.

Scope and content

The fonds contain files which document the functions of Sports Services. It includes minutes: Athletic Council (1958-1960), Sports Council (1962-1982), Executive Committee (1971-1975), Management Committee (1989-1993), reports of the Sports Council (1962-1965) and annual reports (1975-1990). It also contains programs: souvenir (1947-1982), Summer camp and sport activities (1959-1962, 1965-2008), press releases (1970-1977) as well as various press release albums. Memorandums (1982-1999, 2001-2004), information concerning the Panda, documents on the 13th Man Gee-Gees football Touch Down Dinner and files on the Jeux de la francophonie (1989) can also be found. Moreover, it contains information about Intramuros and Extramuros and iconographic material of the University women's and men's teams. A large collection of trophies, uniforms and miscellaneous artifacts are described within the Artifact collection and Textile collection inventories. A series of football films has been transferred to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in Hamilton, On.
