University of Ottawa. Placement Centre

Administrative history

A Placement Bureau is established in 1948 by the School of Psychology and Education as a department of the Guidance Centre. It contributes to the training of students in orientation and offers employment opportunities to the students of the University. In 1964, the Placement Office is transferred to the Department of Student Affairs, and, in 1970, the Placement Service joins the reorganized Student Services. In 1987, the Placement Service is administered by Manpower and Immigration Canada, in co-operation with the University. The Service informs students of employment possibilities and offers counseling. In 1992, the Service changes its name for Placement Centre. One year later, after a two year transition period, the Career and Counseling Service starts being fully responsible for the Centre again.
