Schuetze, Luther L., 1891-1979

Biographical history

Luther Ludwig Schuetze (1891-1979) was a Methodist/United Church minister and missionary in Canada and the United States. He was born of German parentage at Joinville Station, Brazil, in 1891. He married Augusta Hoffman in 1921, when he was working as an independent trader with the Aboriginal Peoples of Manitoba. In 1926, he was asked to build a mission for the United Church at Little Grand Rapids. He served there from 1927 to 1938; then at Berens River from 1938 to 1942. After three years with the Methodist Church in Rainier, Oregon, he returned to British Columbia and served there until 1964. He was ordained by The United Church of Canada in 1949.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of photocopy of typescript reminiscences documenting Schuetze's work in the Manitoba pastoral charge of Little Grand Rapids: "Mission to Little Grand Rapids, 1927-1938", 1964-1965.
