Administrative history

The Commonwealth Study Conference was first organized in 1956 with the active support of H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh to study the human consequences of industrialization. They were held every six years in different countries.

Custodial history

Scope and content

Fonds consists of records arising from the two Commonwealth Study Conferences held in Canada in 1962 and 1980. The records of the 1962 conference include correspondence, planning files, photographs and biographical data on members, maps, questionnaires, announcement literature, press clippings, copies of speeches, programmes, study tour reports, working papers, and a copy of the final report. Records of the 1980 conference include correspondence, committee records, membership lists, study group records, samples of printed documents and literature, press conference records, and other materials. Fonds also includes an introductory slide show for the 1980 conference, as well as audio recordings of sessions at Kingston, Calgary, and Quebec City, and video recordings of various conference activities.
