History
Jonas Herrgott purchased a small thresher factory from William Hall in Mildmay Ontario, Bruce County, in 1877. He brought his brothers Jacob and Henry Herrgott into the business in 1890 and 1896. The company became known as the Herrgott Brothers Thresher Co. In 1903, they expanded their operations to include a new type of apple cider press, the Knuckle-Joint systems, which were sold to cider factories on a national scale. The Herggotts set up a custom cider and apple butter plant in their Mildmay factory for several months each fall. In 1938, the operation was sold to Charles Lobsinger. The Lobsinger family expanded the production of the “Lion” thresher. Their annual production was sustained by the commercial apple butter and cider plant, as well as the production of apple processing equipment. After 1967 the combine and forage harvester succeeded the Lion thresher and the apple butter and cider business became unprofitable.
