Biographical history

Alfred Harris (1813-1879) came from England to the village of Gore's Landing and worked as an innkeeper in the "Harris Hotel". In 1854 Harris built the "White House", an imposing rough-cast structure with a three storey verandah as his residence and guest house for retired gentlemen. (Historic Gore's Landing, A Walking Tour, 2nd edition).

Fonds consists of 15 volumes of business ledgers and account books from the Harris Hotel, tavern and general store operated by Alfred Harris and family, Gore's Landing near Rice Lake; includes an account ledger for Rice Lake Indian Reserve (churches, schools, etc), 1889-1898.
