<bioghist encodinganalog="3.2.2"><p>The Hamilton and Scourge were two wooden schooners which sank in Lake Ontario during the War of 1812. Their location on the lake bottom was discovered in 1975. In 1981 the City of Hamilton created the Hamilton-Scourge Foundation for the purpose of fund-raising. In 1983 the Project was formally organized by the City to undertake research with particular emphasis on the raising and exhibition of the ships. There is a book about the two schooners by Emily Cain, Ghost Ships: Hamilton and Scourge: Historical Treasures from the War of 1812 (1983). As of 1997 there is insufficient funding to finance the raising of the ships.</p></bioghist> <scopecontent encodinganalog="3.3.1"><p>The fonds consists of photocopies of research documents and computer printouts.</p></scopecontent> <controlaccess>
