Historia
The development of the Town of Aylmer was in large part due to the coming of the railway in 1871. The rapid progress brought about by the railway resulted in the incorporation of Aylmer as a village in January 1872. The town was named after Matthew Whitworth-Aylmer, 5th Baron Aylmer, who was Governor General of British North America from 1830 to 1835. It is sometimes referred to as Aylmer West, to distinguish it from Aylmer East, Aylmer, Gatineau, Quebec. Aylmer was incorporated as a town in 1887, and remains a separate municipality.
