Administrative history

On the dissolution of the Woman's Auxiliary (WA) in 1967 Anglican Church Women (ACW) was formed as an umbrella organization to carry out and support all aspects of women's ministry in the diocese and beyond through worship, learning, service, and outreach. Administratively, the ACW is organized nationally, by diocese, regional groups (deaneries), and by parish groups. Presidents of the Diocesan ACW were as follows: 1962-1968: Mrs. Margaret Waugh 1968-1971: Mrs. Nevitt Maybee 1971-1974: Mrs. Joyce Sorenson 1974-1977: Mrs. Audrey Warburton 1977-1980: Mrs. Amy Newell 1980-1983: Mrs. Marni Margach 1983-1987: Mrs. Ann Bird 1987-present: Rotational amongst executive

Custodial history

From the time of its origin in 1967, ACW records were housed at the WA/ACW Archives located in the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa Archives facility. In 1992, the WA and ACW archival holdings were officially transferred to the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa Archives. At this time, the records of each parish branch were placed in individual parishes files. The WA fonds and the ACW fonds were organized and described in 1996.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of records of the activities of the ACW. The principal documentary forms include minutes, financial records, lists of officers, reports, correspondence, pamphlets and publications including Living Message and Anglican Magazine (1986-1991), photographs, and newsclippings about Anglican Church Women.
